Defenders Lose GPAC Match In Mitchell

The Dordt Defender volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision on the road at Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night, October 30 in GPAC play. The Defenders fell for the seventh time in 15 outings in the conference by set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 25-12.

The hosts used a couple multi-point runs in set one to take control and led 11-6 after a four point streak. An Amy Doef ace serve stopped the run but a five point Wesleyan run ensued and the Tigers went on to take a 25-16 win.

Set two was tied to 9-9 when the Tigers started a three-point run with a kill and Dordt managed to battle back to a 13-13 tie as Haley Kuperus had a kill and she teamed with Kelly McArthur for a point on a block.  The Tigers re-established control and led by multiple points for the rest of the set in winning 25-20.

Dordt reversed the course of the match in set three with a three-point run to go in front 9-5 and the Defenders built the lead to 24-13 before winning 25-18. Dordt couldn't keep the momentum running and lost set four 25-12 as the Tigers jumped out to a 6-1 lead.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt had a 48-39 kills advantage but had 38 errors to Wesleyan's 11.

Dordt had an 8-4 aces edge but Wesleyan scored 11 points on blocks to Dordt's four.

Dordt will travel to face Jamestown and Valley City State on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2.
