The Defender volleyball team earned a home win Saturday afternoon over Doane in GPAC play to stop a two-match losing skid and improved to 5-3 in conference play. Dordt controlled much of the match in taking the 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 win to go to 11-8 overall this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doane took an early lead in set one and was up 4-2 before a five point run by the Defenders, capped by a
Ayden Den Herder and
Haley Kuperus block put Dordt up 7-4. Doane had an answer and eventually went up 11-10. Ties ensued up to 15-15 as neither team was able to score back to back points. An
Ellie Dokter service ace gave the Defenders a lead they didn't relinquish and sparked a string of six points in a row with the junior from Sioux Center in the service box. Doane got no closer than 22-19 the rest of the set and Dordt won 25-20.
Doane again grabbed the upper hand with a 6-2 lead in set two but Dordt trimmed it to 6-5 with a service error and then kills by Kuperus and Dokter. The set was tied at 9-9 and 10-10 before Dordt cashed in on a
Tarren Spartz kill followed by attack errors and a Den Herder kill. The Tigers stayed within striking distance but got no closer than 21-19 and Dordt scored four of the last five points for the second 25-20 win in a row.
Dordt trailed once in set three, 1-0, and took a 12-5 lead and was in control for the remainder of the set winning by an eventual 25-18 score.
THE NUMBERS
Dordt had a 37-30 kills advantage and hit for a .214 kill efficiency while Doane had 23 errors and a .066 kill efficiency.
Both teams had 42 digs and Dordt scored eight points from blocks and Doane two.
