(Tuesday, December 3; Sioux Center, Iowa) Laney Wolfswinkel, a senior at Cherokee Washington High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.
"I am beyond excited to have Laney join the Defender Volleyball Program. She is a natural leader and her hunger to compete and be great is contagious. Her drive and energy will instantly make us better and I look forward to having her in Black and Gold," said Dordt volleyball coach Jacki Smith.
Wolfswinkel is an outside hitter who had 782 career kills with 827 digs and 150 blocks and 173 ace serves. Wolfswinkel was a second-team all-state selection this season after earning third-team honors in 2023. She also claimed all-Lakes Conference honors as a junior and senior. Wolfswinkel is a two-time all-district selection and was a part of three straight conference champion teams in 2022, 2023 and 2024. She also was part of two national qualifying club volleyball teams with Northwest Iowa Volleyball.
"I chose Dordt because of how welcome I felt when I stepped on campus and I also love how comfortable I was right away with Jacki. I also love knowing the growth I will have in the animal science field with Dordt's amazing agriculture program," said Wolfswinkel.
Laney is the daughter of Lindsay and Brent Wolfswinkel of Cherokee, Iowa. She plans to study animal science.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
