GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defender softball team lost a 4-3 decision to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday morning, March 5 in a game played in Florida.

The Defenders scored two in the first with Karli Olsen getting across on a wild pitch and a Luaren Steenstra sacrifice fly pushed Aurora Tyson across. A Chloe Kreuz single scored Brynn Torrenga in the second inning and the Defenders were up 3-0.

Mount Vernon Nazarene came back with two in the bottom of the second and then tied the game with a run in the fourth. A sacrifice fly plated the winning run in the fifth inning as Dordt was unable to muster a base runner in the sixth or seventh innings.

THE NUMBERS
  • Dordt was outhit 7-2 but took advantage of six walks and two Mount Vernon Nazarene errors.
  • Kreuz was 1-4 with a run batted in.
  • Karli Olsen had three walks and scored a run.
  • Torrenga had Dordt's other base hit.
  • Alexa Kopaska pitched four innings and allowed four runs on six hits with two walks.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED

A first inning run proved to be enough for the Defenders in a 1-0 win over Spring Arbor on Tuesday afternoon. Brook Rule scored the winning run on a two-out single by Chloe Kreuz in the bottom of the first and that run stood up.

Spring Arbor threatened with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning but came up empty after a runner interference call and a fly ball out to centerfield.   Spring Arbor had one more base runner with a single in the fifth inning but were unable to produce any offense and
Spring Arbor was retired in order in the sixth and seventh innings.

THE NUMBERS
  • Spring Arbor had a 6-4 hits advantage with three of those hits coming in the ill-fated fourth inning.
  • Neither team committed an error.
  • Kreuz had two hits and a run batted in.
  • Aurora Tyson and Karli Olsen both had base hits and Tyson also took one of Dordt's three walks.
  • Kreuz was the winning pitcher in the duel with a shutout on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
  • Dordt is now 8-9 overall.
