HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Northwestern on Saturday in the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center.
Dordt led 4-3 in set one before Northwestern's 5-0 run put them up 8-4 and the Defenders would get as close as three before losing 25-19. In set two Dordt took a 3-0 lead with two kills by
Tarren Spartz and an
Ellie Weg kill. Four ties ensued with the teams standing tied at 8-8 before a 4-0 Northwestern run put the visitors up 12-8. Dordt had the difference down to 12-10 but the Raiders scored six of the next eight for an 18-12 advantage and went on to win 25-18.
Northwestern used the momentum to lead 11-4 in set three before Dordt rallied to eventually tie the set at 14-14 on an attack error. The teams swapped points for a 15-15 tie and Northwestern scored three in a row to take control before  Spartz had a kill to stop the run. Dordt got no closer than four down the stretch and lost 25-18.
