Dordt bounced back from a Friday loss with a 3-1 win over Doane in Crete, Nebraska, Saturday afternoon to improve to 6-4 in GPAC play with six matches remaining. Dordt won by scores of 25–20, 25–27, 25–23, and 25–16 and improved to 15–6 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a back-and-forth start to the opening set, Dordt put together a 6–0 run midway through the frame to go ahead 12–6 behind kills from
Tarren Spartz and
Haley Kuperus. Doane closed within two at 18–16, but Kuperus and
Ellie Dokter each registered kills during a closing 7–4 stretch to give Dordt the 25–20 win.
Set two featured 15 ties and six lead changes. Dordt trailed 23–22 before kills from Kuperus and Dokter forced extra points, but Doane answered with three of the final four rallies to even the match 27–25.
In the third, Dordt jumped ahead 10–6 thanks to strong serving from
Kylie Beckering, who tallied two aces in the stretch. The Tigers clawed back to tie at 19–19, but Kuperus and
Laney Wolfswinkel recorded back-to-back kills, and a
Peyton Poppema finish sealed the 25–23 win.
The Defenders controlled the fourth from the start, scoring the first seven points with two aces from
Haley Wielenga and multiple kills by
Myra Carlson and Wolfswinkel. Dordt hit .294 in the final set and closed out the match 25–16 on a Kuperus kill.
