Softball | Defenders Off To 6-0 GPAC Start After Hastings Sweep

Dordt completed a dominant doubleheader sweep of Hastings, opening with a 12-0 shutout before securing a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. The Defenders' pitching staff was the story of the day, allowing just one run over 12 total innings. Dordt is 6-0 in the league and 25-6 overall.  Dordt will face Doane on Saturday, March 28.

Dordt opened the day with an explosive offensive performance, scoring in four of the five innings to win via the run rule. Chloe Kreuz ignited the attack immediately, leading off the game with a solo home run to right center. After a quiet second, the Defenders broke the game open with a seven-run third inning. Rylee Yager drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI single, followed later by a massive four-RBI home run from Aubrey DeShaw to extend the lead to 6-0. Peyton Whipple and Tera Lynn Price both crossed the plate later in the inning following an error and another Yager RBI single.

The power display continued in the fourth when Sumaya Edwards launched a two-run home run. Lauren Steenstra capped the scoring in the fifth with a two-RBI single that brought home Annabelle Hensley and Kreuz. Rylee Yager was untouchable in the circle, tossing a complete-game three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.

The second game remained a tight pitcher's duel through the first three innings before Dordt's power bats took over late. In the fourth, Rylee Yager reached on an error and Annabelle Hensley capitalized instantly, blasting a two-run home run to give Dordt a 2-0 lead. Hastings responded in the bottom half with their only run of the day, a solo home run by Lauren Lee.

Holding a slim 2-1 lead entering the seventh, the Defenders unleashed a five-run rally to pull away. Tera Lynn Price started the scoring with an RBI double to right field. Hensley followed with a two-RBI single to center, and Lauren Steenstra put the game out of reach with a two-run home run to center field. Abigail Tweedy earned the win with a dominant complete-game performance, scattering five hits and striking out seven.
