Drake Relays Champion - Defenders Win Title in the Distance Medley

For the second consecutive year, the Dordt University women's track and field team took home a Drake Relays Championship as the Defenders claimed gold in the Distance Medley on the final day of competition on the esteemed Blue Oval. 

Notes: 

  • the Defenders led from start to finish in claiming the title in the Distance Medley, Iowa College Division
  • the Defenders finished seventh in the finals of the 4x400 relay, third among the NAIA teams competing
    • Dordt qualified for the 8-team final with their time in Friday's prelim
    • the Defenders recorded a time of 3:47.10, their second consecutive time sub-3:50 (they went 3:46 on Friday)
    • relay members include: Anna Heynen, Kaitlyn Wercinski, Ada Dekkers, Shelby Buwalda
    • Lincoln (Mo.) won the championship with a time of 3:40, followed by Minnesota State (3:41)
  • Makenna Walhof, who was competing in her second event at Drake, did not record a mark in the hammer
    • Walhof placed eighth in the discus on Friday and has a top 10 mark in the NAIA in both events
