The Dordt University men's golf team fired a 3-over 291 in the final round to earn a share of the Mount Marty Invitational team championship on Tuesday, September 1, at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, South Dakota.

The Defenders entered the final round five strokes behind Morningside B after shooting a 298 on Monday at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. Dordt made up all five strokes with its 291 at Fox Run and finished with a 36-hole total of 589. Morningside B shot a final-round 296 to also finish at 589.
Morningside C placed third with a 600, Mount Marty A was fourth at 611 and Concordia A finished fifth with a 615 in the 14-team field.
Samuel Wolfe and
Trey Van Groningen led the Defenders and were part of a three-way tie for third with 1-over totals of 145.
Wolfe followed his opening-round 73 with an even-par 72 at Fox Run. He played the front nine at even par and birdied the par-five 10th hole on his way to a second consecutive round of 73 or better.
Van Groningen shot a 72-73=145. He recorded four birdies during the final round, scoring below par on Nos. 2, 7, 10 and 13. Van Groningen played the two-round event with eight birdies and closed Monday's round with consecutive birdies.
Ian Grossmann finished in a tie for sixth with a 74-74=148. Grossman recorded three birdies during the final round, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. He totaled six birdies over the two days.
Caleb Douma provided Dordt's best final round, improving nine strokes from Monday with an 81-72=153. Douma carded a 2-under 34 on the front nine and birdied four holes during the round. He finished in a tie for 14th.
Leyton Roetman shot a 79-77=156 and placed 27th. His second-round score was not included in Dordt's team total.
Dordt's four counting scores totaled 143 on the front nine and 148 on the back at Fox Run. The Defenders recorded 12 birdies during the final round and 22 over the two-day tournament.
Thomas Carroll of Morningside earned individual medalist honors with a 71-70=141 and finished 3-under par. Morningside's Owen Bruins was second with a 70-73=143. Wolfe, Van Groningen and Concordia's Calvin Zabloudil all finished at 145.
Dordt's second team placed 10th with a 319-320=639.
Joshua Toner led the group with a 78-80=158 and tied for 33rd.
David Chacon posted the second team's best final round with a 78 and finished with a 160. Chacon birdied Nos. 7 and 18 at Fox Run.
Deacon Branderhorst shot an 81-80=161, and
Evan Wood finished with an 80-82=162.
Cade Van Groningen shot an 86 in the final round and finished at 166.

Dordt will next compete in the Siouxland Invitational on September 14-15. The opening 36 holes will be played at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, with the final round scheduled for Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
